As finance country partner, Jeremy Thomas is responsible for all finance, legal control and affairs for the Southern African region. Jeremy’s portfolio is extensive and touches all areas of operations, providing overall business support to the country president.
Aside from directing overall financial executions, from reporting, budgeting, forecasting to payroll, he directs legal, statutory and tax compliance practices, risk management and audit activities that support Schneider Electric’s multi-territory business across Southern Africa. This demands a blend of technical skills and business acumen, combining the requisite financial skill sets as well as the operational insights that support a business of this scale and complexity.
Jeremy also provides the organisation’s company secretary function, is a member of SLT and sits on the local board and social and ethics committees.
Jeremy is well qualified to provide this mix of capabilities. He studied a B Com. Accounting and Commercial Law from the University of the Witwatersrand, followed by a B Compt. (Honours) in Accounting and Auditing from the University of South Africa (Unisa), whereafter he pursued a Chartered Accountancy qualification. He completed his articles with Ernst & Young before leaving for a project accountancy role Altron Group, and then group financial manager at BMW.
At 32 Jeremy obtained his first directorship at Omnigraphics (Pty) Ltd, where he was instrumental in the company’s turnaround. These experiences lead to his appointment as the first finance director for Cell C Service Provider at the launch of the company, where he also spent six months as acting MD. He went on to a CFO role at CH Warman Pump Group in the mining sector until his appointment as finance director for Super Group’s retail supply chain business, where he also undertook a commercial role handling growth, and mergers and acquisitions.
Prior to joining Schneider Electric, Jeremy was group finance director for Verimark Limited, where he held a full JSE listed company directorship for three years. He is a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA).
