About us
SUMMIT TV CAMPAIGNSchneider Electric sponsors Energy Efficiency programIn 2008, South Africa has experienced rolling black outs and load shedding from our energy producer, Eskom, due to demand outstripping supply. Furthermore, Eskom has now applied for a 34% tariff increase and then a further 60% in the future. To compound this, there are talks of Punitive Tariffs being implemented to those users who do not remain within a predefined energy usage limit. This will cause the "offenders" energy bill to rise exponentially, and in some cases multiplying by 5 fold. The combination of the above has caused industry and the public to sit up and take notice of their energy consumption and this is where Schneider Electric comes in. Schneider Electric, together with a local TV business channel, Summit TV (channel 412 on DSTV), launched The Power of Business, a TV campaign that addressed the concerns the country has regarding energy use and conservation thereof, with the focus on Energy Efficiency. The aim of the campaign was to understand, educate and equip energy users with key methods and solutions enabling them to reduce their energy usage (i.e. making energy more efficient), and ultimately reducing their energy bill. Within the series, of 26 weeks, we unpacked the issues and concerns by various industries regarding the tariff increase; punitive tariffs and then delved into the challenges faced by these industries, after which we offered some key solutions and alternatives with Schneider Electric key experts. The show was broadcast for 26 weeks which started on the 11th May 2009. Below you will find video's of some of the discussions held.
